SAMHSA's HIPAA Regulations Briefings

On September 9, 2003, SAMHSA held a conference call discussing the HIPAA regulation governing electronic transactions. That was the first in a series of briefings sponsored by SAMHSA on the three HIPAA regulations and how they apply to substance abuse and mental health programs. The next teleconference, covering the electronic security standards, is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at 2:00 EST. The call is scheduled to end at 3:15 EST. A senior official from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) responsible for implementing the electronic security standards will make the main presentation. Ronald Manderscheid will update the group on activities at SAMHSA in relation to security standards. Individuals will be able to hear his presentation via telephone and view materials simultaneously on the Internet.

Please send an e-mail to rmanders@samhsa.gov if you are interested in participating.
