CMS Solicits Comments on Proposed Decision Memo for Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Treatment of Resistant Depression
CMS is proposing that there is sufficient evidence to conclude that vagus nerve stimulation is not reasonable and necessary for treatment of resistant depression. Accordingly, they propose to issue a national noncoverage determination for this indication.
They are requesting public comments on this proposed determination pursuant to Section 731 of the Medicare Modernization Act. they are particularly interested in comments that include new evidence we have not reviewed here. After considering the public comments and any additional evidence we will make a final determination and issue a final decision memorandum.
