DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

DSSI plans, implements and evaluates service delivery systems that stimulate the adoption of new, more effective approaches to mental health treatment and services for particularly vulnerable people, with emphasis on adults with serious mental illnesses, individuals who are homeless and have a serious mental illness, as well as children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances and their families.

If selected for this position, you will serve as Division Director with responsibility for planning, developing, directing, supervising and evaluating efforts to stimulate and support service programs that contribute to the improvement and expansion of mental health services and positive outcomes for mental health consumers (adults and children).

ORGANIZATIONAL LOCATION:

HHS, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), Division of Service Systems Improvement (DSSI), Community Support Programs Branch, Rockville, MD

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

If selected for this position, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, reporting and application of activities to synthesize and apply knowledge related to community mental health and support issues (e.g., psychiatric rehabilitation, crisis services, case management, and consumer self-help).

Specifically, you will:

  • Provide guidance and consultation on substantive health administration issues relevant to assigned program operations in the area of mental health services for adults with severe mental illness;
  • Monitor on-going grants or contracts to ensure that projects and activities are meeting the program goals involving community support and treatment services to adults with severe mental illness;
  • Ensure conduct of activities is consistent with Center and Agency policies and procedures, and that the projects are progressing as planned in terms of goals and objectives. Conduct site visits when appropriate;
  • Review and monitor budgets and ensure the appropriate use of resources;
  • Identify operational project needs and/or problem areas and provide technical assistance or consult with supervisor and/or the program officer, grants management, or contracts management official to resolve issues;
  • Assist in the conceptualization and preparation of Program Announcements including Notices of Funding Availability (NOFAs) and Requests for Applications (RFAs) to develop specific areas and methods in the filed related to Branch program goals;
  • Encourage and monitor grantees in their data gathering operations and provide administrative guidance regarding completeness and data quality;
  • Prepare computer programs and spreadsheets to track Branch grants and cooperative agreements;
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote widespread dissemination of knowledge obtained through projects and related initiatives.
