Leadership Academy in Action"

May 11-14, 2006 Embassy Suites, Charleston, West Virginia

Meaningful involvement of people using mental health services is essential to development of effective and responsive human service systems. Many are calling for consumer inclusion in local, state, national policymaking for people with psychiatric disabilities. Interest is growing in the role of leadership in transformation of mental health services, supports, systems, as called for by the New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. The need for consumers to assume leadership roles is paramount. It's timely to polish skills to express opinions effectively, to advocate for selves and others, and to meaningfully educate political or legislative systems. Participants have opportunity to develop and strengthen leadership skills. They will hear from seasoned Leadership Academy graduates about challenges and successes encountered. There will be opportunity to join an exciting effort to elevate the level of evidence on the effectiveness of peer-delivered training offered via the!
