Million Available for Intervention Development and Evaluation Centers of the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced availability of FY 2004 funds for Intervention Development and Evaluation Centers of the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative. These centers are expected to deliver and evaluate improved treatment approaches and models of service delivery for specific types of trauma, such as child abuse or refugee trauma; different settings for providing services such as schools or residential treatment centers; or different populations of traumatized children, such as adolescents or rural populations.

The centers will identify or develop treatment approaches for acute and chronic trauma in children and adolescents, develop intervention manuals, evaluate the effectiveness of intervention approaches, and create training procedures to teach effective trauma interventions to service providers.

It is expected that million will fund up to five one-year awards with a maximum allowable annual award of $600,000. The actual amount for the awards may vary, depending on unanticipated program requirements. The grant will be awarded by SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).

WHO CAN APPLY: Only the five Intervention and Development Centers funded in Fiscal Year 2001 may apply for these grants.
