SAMHSA Announces New Funding Opportunity

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has announced availability of FY 2004 funds to improve state and local government mental health data infrastructures. These grants are designed to allow state mental health authorities to improve management of delivery of mental health services. The program is one of SAMHSA's infrastructure grants and is intended to focus on implementing new measures under the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant.

It is expected that approximately $8.25 million will be available in fiscal year 2004 to fund up to 51 awards for up to $150,000 per year for three years for mental health authorities in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Additionally, eight awards at $75,000 per year will be provided for mental health authorities in the U.S. territories. The actual amount available for the awards may vary, depending on unanticipated program requirements and the number and quality of the applications received. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).

Eligible applicants are limited to state mental health authorities in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories.
