New SAMHSA Brochures Discuss Mental Health and Substance Use Issues Affecting Crime Victims and their Loved Ones

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced the availability of Answers in the Aftermath and Supporting the Survivor, two brochures addressing mental health and substance use issues facing crime victims. The brochures are being released in observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, April 10-16.

Answers in the Aftermath explains conditions that victims of violent crime often face, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance abuse. The brochure gives information on how crime victims can deal with these obstacles in the aftermath of crime, and resources that can help them find healing.

Supporting the Survivor is a resource for loved ones of crime victims. This brochure addresses the mental health and substance use issues a crime victim may face and how a supporter can help a loved one.
