National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Update

The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is pleased to announce that National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day 2006 will take place on Monday, May 8. National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day presents an opportunity for communities across the nation to promote resilience, recovery, and the transformation of mental health services delivery for children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families.

The theme for National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day is "Thriving in the Community."

To help you stage local activities in support of National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, SAMHSA has developed a Planning Notebook of technical assistance materials. It contains tips, resources, and ideas which you can easily customize - as well as a fact sheet and directory for each National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Program Partner, so that you can enlist partners for your local activities.

To view PDF versions of the National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day Planning Notebook, please visit www.systemsofcare.samhsa.gov and click on National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day. Also - please take a few minutes to complete and return the attached Pledge Form, which indicates your intent to participate in National Children's Mental Health Awareness Day.

Together, we can demonstrate that children and youth with serious mental health needs and their families - as well as the partners who are working to transform the delivery of mental health services to them - are thriving in the community
