National Indian Health Service/SAMHSA Behavioral Health Conference San Diego, California, June 5-8, 2006
The purpose of this 4-day national conference sponsored develop mental health, alcohol, and substance abuse recommendations and opportunities for collaboration behavioral health in Indian communities
The Conference supports the IHS/SAMHSA Health Initiatives:
One of the goals of the 2006 IHS/SAMHSA Behavioral Health Conference is to support and move forward the three IHS health initiatives: Health Promotion/Disease Prevention; Management of Chronic Disease; and Behavioral Health recently announced by Dr. Grim; Director of the IHS, to address the health challenges and disparities facing Indian people today.
Another goal of the Conference is to help ensure, "A Life in the Community for Everyone!" In collaboration with states, tribes, tribal organization, urban Indians, national and local community-based and faith-based organizations, and public and private sector providers, SAMHSA is working to ensure that people with or at risk for a mental or addictive disorder have the opportunity for a fulfilling life that includes a job, a home, and meaningful relationships with family and friends.
These initiatives are linked together and have the potential to achieve positive improvements in the health of Indian people.
The Conference is designed for:
Tribal and urban Indian behavioral health and substance abuse professionals Tribal leaders Medical providers Traditional healers State agency directors; State alcohol and substance abuse program directors and staff CSAT, CSAP and CMHS tribal grantees AI/AN youth and consumers Other federal government agencies
