Funds Available for Nat'l Child Traumatic Stress Initiative

$4.8 Million Available for the Expansion of Community Treatment and Service Centers for the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative

.8 Million Available for the Expansion of Intervention Development and Evaluation Centers for the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for FY 2003 cooperative agreements for new National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative Community Treatment and Services Centers and Intervention Development and Evaluation Centers. A network of centers, the National Child Traumatic Stress Network, has been established to improve treatment and services for all children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events. Community Treatment and Services centers implement effective treatment and service delivery approaches for child trauma in community and specialty youth service settings. Intervention Development and Evaluation centers identify, develop, improve and evaluate interventions in specific areas of child and adolescent trauma.

It is expected that approximately $4.8 million will be made available for about 12 Community Treatment and Services (CTS) centers. Awards will be set aside for CTS centers in states that do not have a currently funded CTS center. A list of these states is provided in the Request for Applications. Approximately .8 million will be available for three new Intervention Development and Evaluation (IDE) centers that must focus on the development of trauma treatment and services (1) in rural, frontier, and tribal areas, (2) in specialty youth?serving service systems, or (3) for adolescents with traumatic stress and substance abuse. Awards may be requested for up to 4 years. Annual continuation awards will depend on the availability of funds and progress achieved. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services.
