SAMHSA'S Center for Mental Health Services National Advisory Council, Subcommitee on Cunsumer/Survivor Issues Meets August 15-16, 2005 in Rockville, Maryland

The Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) Subcommittee on Consumer/Survivor Issues of the CMHS National Advisory Council (NAC) will hold its next meeting on Monday, August 15 through Tuesday, August 16 at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in Rockville, Maryland. (See below for address.) The meeting will take place in the Sugarloaf Room and is open to the public. All those interested are encouraged to attend.

The agenda of the upcoming meeting features presentations from the Administrator of SAMHSA, Charles G. Curie, M.A., A.C.S.W. (invited), and the Deputy Director of CMHS, Ted Searle, M.B.A. There will also be presentations and discussions on the development of the Kansas consumer-driven statement, defining consumer-driven mental health services, workforce development and peers as providers presented by the Annapolis Coalition, an update on SAMHSA's mental health transformation State Incentive Grants and SAMHSA's Transformation Action Initiative. Attendees are also provided an opportunity for public comment.

SAMHSA welcomes three newly appointed members to CMHS National Advisory Council, Subcommittee on Consumer Survivor Issues: Ms. Frances Priester, director of the Office of Consumer and Family Affairs for the Department of Mental Health for the District of Columbia; Ms. Ellen Awai, volunteer coordinator for NAMI Hawaii; and Mr. Randall Bosin, public mental health system advocate and consultant of Chevy Chase, Maryland.

The full CMHS National Advisory Council Meeting will take place at the same site on the three days immediately following the Subcommittee meeting, August 17-19, 2005.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CMHS CONSUMER/SURVIVOR SUBCOMMITTEE

The Subcommittee on Consumer/Survivor Issues was formed in August 2000 to report to the CMHS National Advisory Council (NAC) on the specific needs, issues and concerns of mental health consumers/survivors from the consumer/survivor perspective, and to advise and make recommendations to the NAC. (A complete list of the Subcommittee's recommendations to the NAC can be accessed at http://samhsa.gov/cmhs/AdvisoryCouncil/matrix.asp .) The Subcommittee consists of members of the NAC and expert consultants.
