Teleconference on Juvenile Diversion Programs and Mental Health Courts
Please join the GAINS TAPA Center on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 from 2:00-3:30 pm EDT for Juvenile Diversion Programs and Mental Health Courts, the 6th in our series of FREE Net/Tele Conferences. During this call, Dr. Joseph J. Cocozza, Director of the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice (NCMHJJ) at Policy Research Associates, and Dr. Eric Trupin, Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Washington School of Medicine, will present:
an overview of mental health issues and needs among justice-involved youth and the importance of diverting these youth whenever possible from further involvement in the juvenile justice system the results of the NCMHJJ's recent SAMHSA-funded national survey of existing juvenile diversion models, including information on promising programs identified through the survey the characteristics of juvenile mental health courts, some of the benefits of these courts, and the issues associated with their use.
