Online Brochure: Mental Health: It's Part of Aging
Both old age and mental illness have traditionally been stigmatized by our society; and older adults who struggle with mental health problems often face multiple barriers that keep them from getting the help they need. The SAMHSA Resource Center to Address Discrimination and Stigma Associated with Mental Illness (ADS Center) is working to counter stigma associated with mental illness.
Mental Health: It's Part of Aging is an online brochure that offers information for older adults about how to seek treatment for mental illnesses. It includes tips about communicating effectively with your doctor and links to helpful organizations. The brochure is available online at http://promoteacceptance.samhsa.gov/publications/partaging.aspx.
Please use this and our other online resources to counter stigma and discrimination in your community!
We welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions: promoteacceptance@samhsa.hhs.gov.
