Technical Assistance Call for CMHS Grants for Consumer and Consumer Supporter TA Centers

CMHS/SAMHSA announces a pre-application technical assistance telephone conference call related to the recently released (RFA) No.SM-07-003 Grants for National Consumer and Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Centers.

Technical assistance from CMHS/SAMHSA staff via the conference call for (RFA) No. SM-07-003 Grants for National Consumer and Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Centers will be held Thursday, December 7 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM eastern standard time. Interested parties may participate in the call by dialing 1-877-675-5901.

Technical Assistance Centers

SUMMARY: The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), is accepting applications for Fiscal Year 2007 grants to assist in the transformation of the mental health system by promoting consumer directed approaches for adults with serious mental illness. Such programs maximize consumer self-determination and recovery and assist people with a serious mental illness by decreasing their dependence on expensive social services and avoiding psychiatric hospitalization.

It is expected that .8 million will be available to fund up to five National Technical Assistance Center awards in FY 2007, three national consumer self-help technical assistance centers and two national consumer-supporter self-help technical assistance centers. Annual awards are expected to be up to $340,000 per year in total costs (direct and indirect). Applicants may request a project period of up to three years.

An additional $126,000 will be competitively awarded each year to one of the three successful national consumer technical assistance centers to facilitate the Alternatives Conference.

APPLICATION DUE DATES: Applications are due on February 2, 2007

ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants are domestic, private, nonprofit entities, including faith-based organizations, which meet the criteria for consumer or consumer-supporter organizations found in Section III-1; Definitions (of the full application package) and the following requirements:

  1. Applicant organizations must have been in operation for a minimum of one year.
  2. An applicant must complete a Certification of Consumer and Consumer-Supporter Organization Eligibility (See Appendix E of the full application package), indicating that the applicant meets all eligibility requirements. Applicants must also provide necessary supportive documentation specified in the Certificate.
