Meeting on Addressing the Healthcare and Wellness Needs of Women of Color with Disabilities
The 2006 National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health, United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Disability invites you a pre-conference on Addressing the Healthcare and Wellness Needs of Women of Color with Disabilities. "Minding the Gap: Access, Availability and Services" will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2006, 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H Street, NW, Washington, D.C.
Invited speakers include experts from professional and community organizations, academia, and government agencies that will be able to discuss the barriers that women of color experience when seeking medical diagnoses, management, and quality treatment.
The pre-conference will address challenges regarding access, availability, and services to women of color with disabilities:
Barriers to appropriate health care, specialized medical personnel and equipment, as well as culturally sensitive and competent healthcare professionals and facilities.
Limited and anecdotal research and data on women of color with disabilities.
Misdiagnosis, mismanagement and under-treatment of women of color with disabilities.
