This report presents the findings from the 2010 Segal health plan cost trend survey, which surveyed 80 health insurers, managed care organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, and third-party administrators to develop trends to apply to actual medical claims to yield 2010 health plan cost estimates. Segal estimates that expenses will increase 13.3 percent for fee-for-service (FFS) indemnity plans, 11.9 percent for high deductible health plans, 10.8 percent for open access preferred provider organizations (PPOs) and point of service (POS) plans, 10.2 percent for HMOs, 9.8 percent for Medicare Advantage (MA) FFS plans, and 7.7 percent for MA HMOs.
