From SAMHSA's Weekly Financing News Pulse: National Edition - June 17, 2011:
On June 2, the Appalachian
Regional Commission (ARC) awarded a total of $150,000 to
30 coalitions under its Competition for Community-Based Substance Abuse
Initiative grants. Designed to address
disproportionately high rates of substance abuse in Appalachian counties,
particularly targeting prescription drug abuse, ARC provided the grants to
counties deemed economically “distressed” or “at-risk.” Under the program, awardees receive training,
technical assistance, and $5,000 each to expand their efforts to address
substance abuse. Recipient organizations
are located in: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, New York, Ohio,
South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
