Congressional Budget Office Projections on Repealing Health Care Reform Law

Categories:

Topics: Health Care Reform | Legislation (National) | Spending

On February 18, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released an updated projection examining the impact of repealing the national health care reform law.  The estimate predicts that a repeal would increase the deficit by $210 billion between 2012 and 2021.  A previous estimate projected that enacting the law would reduce the deficit by $124 billion from 2010 to 2019.  CBO officials say the primary difference in the projections stems from the different time periods they cover.  However, CBO officials estimate that, during the eight years covered by both projections, implementing the law would save $132 billion while repealing it would increase the deficit by $119 billion.
