On June 8, the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) released a report outlining the coverage of high-risk uninsurables through state and federal high-risk insurance pools as prescribed under the national health care reform law.
From the report: To aid uninsurable individuals, 35 states implemented high-risk health insurance pools over three decades. Federal health reform of March 2010 provides $5 billion among all 50 states, for expanded programs run by states if they choose that option. At least 28 and D.C. had done so as of late May. At least 19 will have the federal government handle the new programs; the remaining three states will decide later.
