Future Funding for Mental Health and Substance Abuse: Increasing Burdens for the Public Sector

Expenditures for behavioral health are expected to double between 2003 and 2014 with public sector spending on the rise.  Projections indicate that state and local substance abuse spending will rise as will mental health spending for Medicaid and prescription drugs.
