This article published in Health Affairs documents a pilot conducted by a health system and a Medicaid managed care organization, where the managed care organization embedded care managers in the provider setting to help to facilitate care. In some ways, results were positive including fewer hospitalizations and readmissions as well as shorter stays. However, patients were more likely to choose those providers with the care managers, thus the admission rates of the health system hospital increased.
