On March 24, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. released a brief examining current and future options for managed long term care for dual eligible individuals. The brief offers background on Medicaid long term support services, options for improving care while reducing costs, and tools to achieve those policy goals. The brief notes that Medicaid funded 43 percent of long term care services in 2009, while Medicare paid for 24 percent.
From the report:
Dual eligibles in general have
greater care needs and less ability to navigate the health care system than
other Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. The “system”
they must navigate is highly complex and poorly coordinated.
