Substance Abuse Treatment Duration for Medicaid versus Commercial Clients in an HMO

Categories: | |

Topics: Access/Barriers | Employer-Sponsored Coverage | Individual Coverage | Managed Care | Medicaid | Out-of-Pocket | Substance Abuse | Treatment

This analysis of health maintenance organizations (HMOs) compares substance abuse treatment initiation and duration for Medicaid managed care clients and commercial clients.  The authors conclude that Medicaid may present barriers to obtaining substance abuse treatment and note that HMO disenrollment was associated with loss of Medicaid eligibility.
