This analysis of health maintenance organizations (HMOs) compares substance abuse treatment initiation and duration for Medicaid managed care clients and commercial clients. The authors conclude that Medicaid may present barriers to obtaining substance abuse treatment and note that HMO disenrollment was associated with loss of Medicaid eligibility.
