The Effects of Copayments on Substance Abuse Treatment Expenditures and Treatment Reoccurrence

These authors conclude that copayments may be an obstacle to substance abuse treatment recovery because they may decrease average length-of-stay in substance abuse treatment in favor of a greater number of treatment episodes.   Higher copayments were associated with lower per-episode costs but also with increased treatment reoccurrence.
