Advisory Available on Acamprosate


New Medication for Alcohol Use Disorders

"Acamprosate: A New Medication for Alcohol Use Disorders," is featured in SAMHSA's Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory, Volume 4, Number 1. This issue of the Advisory provides substance abuse counselors, clinical supervisors, program managers, and other treatment professionals with answers to fundamental questions about acamprosate, an important new medication to help people who are alcohol dependent.

The publication includes a report on acamprosate's effectiveness and safety, compares acamprosate with naltrexone and disulfiram, addresses patient education, and describes effective ways to incorporate acamprosate into treatment programming.
