Nevada's Statewide Family Netowrk works to effectively participate in State and local mental health services planning and health care reform activiites related to improving the infrasturcture that supports community-based services for chidren and adolescents with serious emotional distrubances and their families.

This grant is meant to support an array of activities to help build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaning effective mental health services by assisting family members to work with pokicy makers and service providers to improve services for children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances and their families.

The Collaborating for Children Network Program will continue to provide culturally appropriate competent services helping families to identify and address their families' needs.

The CFC Network will build upon and strengthen the established community-based and statewide linkages with families, family groups, professionals, organizations and policy-makers who are dedicated to empowering families.

We will continue to refine CMHS's URS reporting system using the new AVATAR software, and automate the reporting of all basic and developmental CMHS performance measures. This system will facilitate the upgrading of Nevada's Strategic Plan 2004-2007 and provide the Division with the ability to use consumer encounter data on a statewide basis for long range planning. 2008 DIG grant funds will allow the Division to emphasize enhanced MIS user training and Crystal report use for new and advanced MIS system users. The FFYO8 DIG continues to assist Nevada with data infrastructure issues, web-based technologies, and the Internet.

The project will support the development of sustainable state and local infrastructure resulting in a seamless system of integrated access to science-based early intervention and intervention services for children and youth with behavioral health challenges and their families. Through 2001 legislation mental health consortia were formed in each of the three jurisdictions of the state to coordinate assessment and collaborative planning for mental health services. This SIG will aid that process by funding infrastructure activities including: reforming a state advisory committee, developing an integrated cross system vision and plan for behavioral health services, expanding system assessment to include integrated financing and science based services, increasing statewide family support and advocacy capacity, increasing the capacity to provide culturally proficient services and supports for children and families, improving interagency coordinating mechanisms, developing an expanded focus on science based practices at all levels, implementing a workforce development plan that includes a focus on science based services, effective supervision, and strengths-based professional development plans, developing integrated financing plan including Medicaid redesign, and implementing an integrated performance management system

This SAMHSA funded project supports, expands, and enhances suicide prevention efforts within the communities of the 26 Nevada Tribes by implementing goals in the three areas of interest of the Indian Health Service Suicide Prevention Plan Awareness, Interventions, and Methodology. The Indian Health Service Suicide Prevention Plan (IHSSPP) is correlated with the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention and supports the Nevada Suicide Prevention Plan. In recognizing that suicide is a problem among 2 Tribes in Nevada, the Indian Health Board of Nevada seeks to build, expand and support suicide prevention efforts among native youth by accomplishing the following:
o Develop and implement a statewide suicide surveillance system that ensures consistent reporting and in which both Tribal and IHS health care facilities in Nevada participate;
o Design and implement a culturally appropriate community education and outreach program to promote the awareness that suicide is a public health problem and is preventable;
o Implement research based training for the recognition of at-risk behaviors;
o Develop and implement community-based, culturally appropriate interventions;
o Evaluate the current mental health delivery system available to Tribes and develop and implement recommendations for improvement; and develop a strategic plan for Nevada Tribes in the area of youth suicide.

Nevada Hispanic Services, Inc. has received a five year grant to provide substance abuse prevention and HIV and Hepatitis prevention sevices to minority populations and minority populations re-entering the community from incarceration. The purpose of the proposed project is to allow Nevada Hispanic Services (NHS) to build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaining effective substance abuse, HIV, and hepatitis (SA/HIV/Hep) prevention services, targeting high-risk Hispanics and African Americans in Washoe County. Within the Hispanic and African American populations, this project will focus on four subpopulations: men who have sex with men, injecting drug users, non-injecting substance abusers, and reentry populations. The mission of NHS is to identify and address the needs of minority communities through direct service, education, advocacy and community involvement.

The Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grants are used to advance community-based programs for substance abuse prevention, mental health promotion, and mental illness prevention. The SPF SIG implements a five-step process known to promote youth development, reduce risk-taking behaviors, build on assets, and prevent problem behaviors. The five steps are: (1) conduct needs assessments; (2) build state and local capacity; (3) develop a comprehensive strategic plan; (4) implement evidence-based prevention policies, programs and practices; and (5) monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, sustaining what has worked well.

These grants will allow the programs to provide leadership, technical support and monitoring to ensure that participating communities are successful. The success of the grants will be measured by specific measurable outcomes, among them: abstinence from drug use and alcohol abuse, reduction in substance abuse-related crime, attainment of employment or enrollment in school, increased stability in family and living conditions, increased access to services, and increased social connectedness.

Nevada's Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant is designed to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse, including childhood and underage drinking; reduce substance abuse-related problems in communities; and build prevention capacity and infrastructure at the state and community levels.

The City of Las Vegas EVOLVE Workforce Development Center proposes to offer a flexible and comprehensive program which meets the individual needs of its clients, including reintegration and rehabilitation services that increase the success rates of clients who return to the community as contributing members. The underlying goal of this project is to prepare clients for self-sufficiency. Therefore, a majority of the resources are allocated for substance abuse treatment, support services, relapse prevention and job development activities. The long-term outcomes of the program are to accomplish the following: assist with sobriety and rehabilitation; achieve self-sufficiency and stability; decrease public nuisance; increase public safety; and re-enter society and become law abiding, contributing citizens.

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony proposes to provide a comprehensive treatment program for American Indian/Alaskan Native adolescents and their families living in northern Nevada. Services will include intervention and direct outpatient counseling and therapy services, as well as referral to residential treatment programs. The tribe operates the Reno-Sparks Tribal Health Clinic and is ideally situated to provide focused and culturally competent services to this target population.

The Mountain West Addiction Technology Transfer Center (MWATTC, serving NV, MT, WY, UT, CO, ID) proposes to develop and strengthen the substance abuse disorders treatment workforce in order to provide culturally relevant services in recovery-oriented systems of care in the states of Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming, in partnership with key regional stakeholders through technology transfer activities including training, technical assistance activities, and academic programming. The proposed goals of the MWATTC project include: assessing training and workforce development needs; providing educational opportunities for students entering the addiction field; providing training and technical assistance to clinical supervisors; promoting the adoption of evidence based practices that are culturally relevant and recovery-oriented; serving as a resource for community, faith-based, and recovery groups; utilizing innovative approaches in technology transfer initiatives to develop products and disseminate research findings; engaging in regional, cross regional, and national network activities; sponsoring institutes and activities that promote leadership development; and conducting recruitment and retention practices designed specifically to retain and enhance diversity and competency.
