Allies with Families, proposes a 6-week family respite program for chidren with SED and their families. Operation Families Togeterh (OFT), provides activities to promote positive mental health. The program presents information, training/education along with activities that facilitte positive family interaction, family recreation, and acknowledges individual and family strenghts. OFT strengthens Allies continued programs of statewide family support and outreach.
There existis a serious need for a comprehensive, community-based family respite program designed to serve every member of a family of a child with SED. Children with SED are best served in the home and community enviornment. However, without formal and informal supports for all family members, the child and family remain at risk. Respite, a temporary relief from caring for a child withSED. akkiws parents, caregivers and siblings the opportunity to engage in activites which provide social support, rest and leisure time.
Opertation Families Together has four components; each designed to serve a particular member of the family of a child with SED. The program objectives include the development of a strength-based skill set, expanded knowledge of the impact of children's mental illnesses, and strategies to promote emotional health and well-being. these objectives are met through parent or carefiver participation in the From Hope to Recovery EducationProgram, siblings (ages 7-13) participation in recreatioanl workshops called Sibshops, social skill defelopment programs for children with SED (ages 7-13) and quality childcare for family members ages 0-6. Each component of the OFT program runs concurrently, once a week, for a 6-week period with each weekly session lasting approximately 2 hours. The parent/caregiver education program is available in Spanish. |

Utah currently meets the uniform reporting requirements (URS) for public mental health data but plans to utilize the additional DIG funding to expand data collection to include all NOMs listed in the grant requirement sections, to continue with improvements to local systems (EMRs) and data collection methods (training and education), and to enhance the SAMHIS system for improved processing, data validation and quality control checks, and to expand SAMHIS to offer more pervasive access to public mental health data to allow for increased data analysis, reporting, and process improvement. Utah also plans to utilize State DIG funding to assist with the implementation of the state wide OQ Analyst system. Our goal is to provide for statewide evidenced based measures to evaluate clinical effectiveness. |

DSAMH was one of the five PYT grantees and implemented RECONNECT model in seven counties - two rural and five urban. DSAMH will utitlize the experiences learned with the prior PYT grant to implement RECONNECT model at two communities: San Juan and Tooele counties. Both have Native American reservations in their catchment areas. The overall purpose is to mobilize and coordinate community resources at the state and local levels to assist youth and young adults ages 16 - 25 with serious mental health conditions to transition into adulthood. |
