National Poll Reveals Public Attitudes on Substance Abuse, Treatment and the Prospects of Recovery

Report finds some significant differences in perceptions among various population groups

Americans Believe in Prevention and Recovery from AddictionsThe Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) sponsored this nationwide survey to gain insight into public attitudes toward substance abuse, and the effectiveness of prevention, treatment and recovery programs.

The survey showed that most Americans are supportive of people in recovery, and that the public overwhelmingly believes that prevention and treatment efforts can work.

 

 

 


SAMHSA, is a public health agency within the Department of Health and Human Services. The agency is responsible for improving the accountability, capacity and effectiveness of the nations substance abuse prevention, addictions, treatment, and mental health services delivery system.
