Prevalence
of Workplace Drug and Alcohol Programs and Policies (Table
12.6)
Table 12.6 shows that past month use of illicit
drugs tended to decrease with business size. Conversely, access to drug
and alcohol resources in the workplace tended to increase with business
size. Individuals working in businesses with 25 or more employees were
significantly more likely than those working in small businesses (i.e.,
those with 24 or fewer employees) to report that the business provided
information on drug and alcohol abuse, had a written policy concerning
alcohol or drug abuse, provided access to an employee assistance program
(EAP), and tested for drug use. Age was significantly related to access
to EAP programs and drug testing. Specifically, across all of the business
sizes, employees aged 18 to 25 were less likely than those aged 35 or older
to report having access to EAPs and that their business tested for drugs.
