Figure 9.6 is a bar chart showing reasons for mental health treatment in the past year among youths aged 12 to 17 in 2002. Among youths who received mental health treatment in the past year, the reasons for treatment and the corresponding rates are as follows: depressed, 49.5 percent; breaking rules/acting out, 26.7 percent; suicidal thoughts or attempts, 19.5 percent; afraid or tense, 19.5 percent; family/home problems, 13.8 percent; school problems, 9.8 percent; eating problems, 9.1 percent; social/friend problems, 8.0 percent; other mental disorders, 2.8 percent; and other problems, 22.3 percent.
