SAMHSA Accepting Applications for FY 2009 Grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment Capacity in Targeted Areas of Need-Local Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2009 for grants to Expand Substance Abuse Treatment Capacity in Targeted Areas of Need-Local Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care. This program is designed to foster the development and utilization of local recovery-oriented systems of care to address gaps in treatment capacity by supporting person-centered and self-directed approaches for substance abuse (including alcohol and drug) treatment and recovery services in communities with serious drug problems.

The purpose of this program is to expand the community’s ability to provide integrated and comprehensive community-based responses to a targeted, well-documented substance abuse treatment capacity program and/or improve the quality and intensity of services. This program serves to develop local recovery-oriented systems of care that will expand and/or enhance substance abuse services and promote recovery.

SAMHSA expects that $ 5.1 million in funding will be available to award up to 13 grants of approximately $400,000 per grant for up to 3 years. The actual award amount may vary, depending on the availability of funds and the progress achieved by the awardees. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
