Date: 4/10/2009 SAMHSA Accepting Applications for FY 2009 National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative Community Treatment and Services Center GrantsThe Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is soliciting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2009 National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative Community Treatment and Services Center Grants. The purpose of these grants is to improve treatment and services for children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic events. The grants fund participation in a national network of intervention developers and service providers who work collaboratively to promote effective community practices for children and adolescents who have been exposed to traumatic experiences. The national network is comprised of three types of centers: the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS), the Treatment and Service Adaptation (TSA) Centers, and the Community Treatment and Services (CTS) Centers. The Treatment and Service Adaptation (TSA) Centers provide national expertise on specific types of traumatic events, population groups and service systems, develop effective trauma interventions, and support the specialized adaptation of effective treatment and service interventions for communities across the country. It is anticipated that up to $14.4 million will be available over the course of three years to fund up to 8 grants of approximately $600,000 per year. The actual grant monies awarded are subject to the availability of funds and the performance of the grantees. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services. SAMHSA expects that approximately $31.2 million in funding will be available to award 26 grants for up to three years. The estimated award amounts for grantees will be up to $400,000 a year. The actual award amounts may vary, depending on the availability of funds and the progress achieved by the awardees. The grants will be awarded by SAMHSA’s Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS).
