Date: 7/7/2009 SAMHSA Accepting Applications for FY 2009 National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting Act Program GrantsThe Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year (FY) 2009 National All Schedules Prescription Electronic Reporting Act (NASPER) Program grants. This program is designed to provide grant support to states, including the District of Columbia, to establish and implement or improve state-administered prescription drug monitoring programs (PMPs) in order to ensure that health care providers have access to the accurate, timely prescription history information for identification of patients at risk of addiction. SAMHSA plans to award grants totaling $2 million for up to one year. Individual grantees may get from $21,467-$113,129 in funding depending on an allocation formula developed for the program. These figures are based on the assumption that all 50 states and the District of Columbia will be approved for a NASPER grant. The award range will increase if fewer states are approved. The grants will be administered by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT). WHO CAN APPLY: Eligibility is limited to the immediate office of the Chief Executive (for example, Governor) in the states and the District of Columbia that have enacted legislation or regulations that permit the implementation of a state controlled substance monitoring program and the imposition of appropriate penalties for the unauthorized use and disclosure of information maintained in the program. HOW TO APPLY: Applications for No. TI-09-F1 are available by calling SAMHSA’s Information Line at 1-877-SAMHSA7 [TDD: 1 800-487-4889] or by contacting Jennifer Fan at (240) 276-1759 or jennifer.fan@samhsa.hhs.gov or Nicholas Reuter at (240) 276-2716 or nicholas.reuter@samhsa.hhs.gov. Applicants are encouraged to apply online using www.grants.gov. Additional copies of the request for applications document may also be obtained at www.regulations.gov (type “NASPER” in the search box). APPLICATION DUE DATE: Monday, July 27, 2009. Applications must be received by the due date and time to be considered for review. Please review carefully Section IV-3 of the application announcement for submission requirements. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: For questions on grants management issues contact Barbara Orlando at (240) 276-1422 or barbara.orlando@samhsa.hhs.gov.
