SAMHSA is Accepting Applications for Nearly $17.8 Million in Grants to Expand Family Drug Court-Related Services to Children in Families Affected by Methamphetamine

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is accepting applications for fiscal year 2010 grants to expand services to children affected by methamphetamine in families served by family treatment drug courts.  The purpose of this program is to expand and/or enhance services to children (0-17 years) and families of those suffering from methamphetamine use and abuse, which have resulted in a referral/involvement in a Family Treatment Drug Court (FTDC).  The program will focus primarily on the children (0-17 years) of parents who use or abuse methamphetamine.  Grantees are encouraged to include other caregivers or foster parents involved in the care of the children in the enhancement aspect of the family services.

It is expected that approximately $4.4 million per year will be available to fund up to 12 grants. Awardees are eligible for up to $370,000 per year for up to four years.  The total program is expected to provide a total of nearly $17.8 million over its four year course. The actual amounts may vary, depending on the availability of these funds and the performance of the grantees. The grants will be administered by SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.
