Peer Specialist Student Training Manua

National Association of Peer Specialists

Abstract

There are a great many skills required to be an effective peer specialist. This manual is the third edition of a popular training book developed by the National Association of Peer Specialists. The manual covers such topics as stigma, trauma-informed care, self-determination, cultural competency, conflict resolution, co-occurring disorders and other important topics often not covered in peer specialist training programs. In its 184 pages, readers will also find detailed information about depression—the most common of all psychiatric disorders—and an explanation of why it is important for peer specialists to have a good basic understanding about this specific illness. This training manual is an excellent resource for peer specialists who want detailed information often missing in traditional courses. It is an excellent supplement and resource for further study.
