Powering up Partnerships for Healthy Communities

More than 1,000 people listened as Frances M. Harding, Director of SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), gave the keynote address at the Agency’s 5th Annual Community Prevention Day, sponsored by CSAP.

“Powering Up Partnerships for Healthy Communities,” was this year’s theme for Community Prevention Day.

The all-day event on February 9 at the National Harbor in Maryland, was held in conjunction with Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America’s (CADCA) 19th Annual National Leadership Forum.

Community Prevention Day included messages from SAMHSA’s Dr. Eric Broderick, D.D.S., M.P.H., Acting Administrator; Dr. H. Westley Clark, M.D., J.D., M.P.H., Director of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT); and A. Kathryn Power, M.Ed., Director of the Center for Mental Health Services.

This annual gathering provides a venue for participants to receive training and technical assistance specific to substance abuse prevention, as well as to network with other grantees and partners. Participants were invited to sign up for a variety of workshops to develop strategic organizational skills.

Breakout sessions led by CSAP and CADCA included the following:

• Small Changes Can Yield Big Results: Applying Evidence-Based Kernels for Big Community Change

In attendance at Community Prevention Day were CSAP grantees, National Prevention Partners, the National Prevention Network, CSAP’s Prevention Fellows, and the CSAP National Advisory Council.
