About the Beta Test Program

Thank you for beta testing SAMHSA's new Text 4 Treatment Locations service!

Text 4 Treatment Locations was developed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to allow for text-based access to SAMHSA’s mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities information. SAMHSA needs beta testers to pilot this new service aimed at providing valued-added functionality and visualization tools for SAMHSA’s data.  We are asking you to test this service and provide us with feedback on the quality and usability of this new feature.

An average of 27,000 people call SAMHSA's Contact Center Treatment Line each month to be referred to treatment facilities.  Over 4,000 people every month currently refer to SAMHSA’s mental health locators located on the samhsa.gov website. These numbers and the power of mobile technology indicate a new opportunity to reach the US population. Text 4 Treatment Locations offers a new channel to access locations of mental health treatment facilities near you by simply texting in your zip code. Your feedback will play a critical role in refining and improving the overall quality of the final service that will be available to millions of people. 

Beta Testers are expected to notify SAMHSA of all problems and ideas for enhancements which come to their attention during the beta testing period. We are relying on our beta testers to provide the necessary feedback to improve this service; therefore we hope all those who test Text 4 Treatment Locations will subsequently report their feedback.

To begin testing, please review our instructions for beta testing the Text 4 Treatment Locations and suggestions for testing and feedback. 

The first phase of the beta test (June 21, 2011 – July 12, 2011) is complete. Based on the positive and valuable feedback we received in phase one, we will be extending beta testing for a phase two, beginning July 12, 2011. For phase two, we will be announcing the beta test more widely to reach a variety of audiences and encourage all to participate.
