The Office of the Chief Medical Officer provides assistance to the Assistant Secretary in evaluating and organizing programs within the Agency, and to promote evidence-based and promising best practices emphasizing clinical focus.
The OCMO:
- Provides in-depth experience providing mental health care or substance use disorder treatment services.
- Coordinates with the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) to assess the use of performance metrics to evaluate SAMHSA programs.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Secretary to ensure consistent utilization of appropriate performance metrics and evaluation designs.
