Director of the Office of Communications

Coqui Aspiazu serves as SAMHSA’s Director of the Office of Communications, where she oversees the strategic planning and management of the agency’s communications efforts, including press, digital media, and product development efforts. Prior to this role, Ms. Aspiazu served as the Digital Media Services Branch Chief at SAMHSA, leading the agency’s digital presence across its enterprise website and social media platforms.

Before joining SAMHSA, Ms. Aspiazu worked in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). There, she led digital projects supporting the Office of the Secretary across the department’s digital platforms. She also headed the Continuous Innovation Team, where she developed new features and functionalities for HHS.gov.

Ms. Aspiazu’s previous experience includes working at the General Services Administration (GSA), where she managed a program that provided content management and hosted services to federal agencies. She also oversaw the creation of Spanish-language Public Service Announcements and supported the print publications program, providing client services for multiple government agencies.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Aspiazu spent a decade as a journalist in both print and television. She served as News Director for Telemundo Washington and launched a Spanish-language web portal for a group of television stations in 11 markets.

Ms. Aspiazu has a Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia University and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a double major in Journalism and Foreign Languages.
