MH-CLD Data Reporting Instructions and Tools

The Mental Health Client-Level Data (MH-CLD) and the Mental Health Treatment Episode Data Set (MH-TEDS) systems provide information on mental health diagnoses and the mental health and support services, outcomes, and demographic and substance use characteristics of individuals in mental health treatment facilities that report to individual state administrative data systems.

Crosswalk

A State Data Crosswalk is prepared by each state and/or territories to describe how their data fields and categories are mapped to the appropriate MH-CLD data fields and categories. States and territories must review and update their state data crosswalk annually. Standardized reporting formats and data definitions are essential to creating and providing national data that are comparable across states and territories. SAMHSA recognizes that some state/territory field definitions and/or categories may not exactly match those in the national MH-CLD dataset.
