NSDUH Methodology Resources
These resources document the survey materials and methodology used for NSDUH, including the data collection and processing methods used to create NSDUH data products. Documentation contains information on sampling, field interview protocols, weighting, imputation, and estimation, as well as the questionnaires and screeners used in each year.
When available, please use the Methodological Summary and Definitions (MSD) report for the context to properly interpret annual reports and tables. For greater detail, the Methodological Resource Books (MRB) have multiple reports, including full versions of the questionnaire.
New items are added to the MRB collection as they become available, so particular resources may not yet be available for a given year. However, there are generally few changes from year to year, and a report from a previous year may have the information you are looking for.
2024 NSDUH Methodology Resources
Methodological Resource Book (MRB) Collection
Use this collection to provide context for estimates from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH). This collection includes materials used to conduct the survey, reports on how the survey was conducted, and reports on how the data were processed. The Statistical Inference Report details how the data were analyzed for reports and tables, which may be useful for data users looking to do their own analysis.
New items are added to the collection as they become available, so resources published in a previous MRB may not yet be available for 2024. However, there are generally few changes from year to year, and a report from a previous year may have the information you are looking for.
