TEDS Data Reporting Instructions and Tools

The Combined Substance Use and Mental Health TEDS State Instruction Manual Describes the TEDS Data System, and the information needed to produce and submit standard admission and discharge/update datafiles.

The use of standardized reporting formats and data definitions is essential to creating and providing national data that are comparable across states and territories. However, SAMHSA recognizes that some state/territory field definitions and/or categories may not exactly match those in the national SU-TEDS dataset. The State Data Crosswalks are prepared by states and territories to describe how their data fields and categories are mapped to the appropriate SU-TEDS data fields and categories. States and territories must review and update their State Data Crosswalk annually.
