Associations of Nonmedical Pain Reliever Use and Initiation of Heroin Use in the United States

This CBHSQ data review uses 2002 through 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) data to examine recent trends in heroin initiation, including the role of nonmedical prescription pain reliever use in the heroin trend among persons aged 12 to 49. Data are presented for various age groups, gender, race/ethnicity, household income, county type, and region.
