The Coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies:

Build the Coalition's prevention capacity through trainings on underage drinking, cultural competency, and environmental prevention; Decrease disparities through outreach to increase participation by the Latino community; Establish a Youth Coalition to provide input on planning, develop an informational video on underage alcohol use, and carry out project activities such as the Responsible Alcohol Merchants Award program to recognize compliant alcohol merchants; Raise community awareness of underage alcohol use through Town Hall meetings, enforcement of the social host ordinance, and an evidence-based prevention curriculum; and Work with other DFC Coalitions toward a countywide Social Host Ordinance.

Native American Health Center, Inc.'s Red Vision II SPF-PFS Project will collaborate with urban Native youth and families to: provide culturally appropriate and integrated wellness and prevention services to reduce alcohol and other substance use and its consequences; and prevent underage drinking among urban American Indian/Alaska Natives (AIANs) ages 12-20 living in California. Red Vision II is a collaboration of urban tribal organizations in California's Alameda, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Santa Clara counties. It aims to expand and strengthen the SPF-based community prevention infrastructure and programming within Northern California urban AIAN communities.

Project SAGE is a community-based mental health program that integrates holistic, culturally-appropriate care for urban American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) youth and young adults with or at high risk for Substance Abuse disorders and HIV in the San Francisco Bay Area. Project SAGE's goal is to expand capacity to provide integrated, holistic, culturally appropriate, evidence-based substance abuse and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment services; subsequently preventing and reducing the onset of substance abuse and the transmission of HIV/AIDS for at-risk AI/AN youth and young adults ages 13-24 located in NAHC's community.

The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: training a cadre of high school age youth in environmental prevention and leadership development so as to facilitate their effmis to spearhead a community-wide prevention campaign; recruiting local businesses to get involved with prevention effmis, implementing a Responsible Beverage Service Training initiative through which a majority of alcohol vendors will be recruited to complete available, and conducting community-wide retreats and Town Hall meetings to reinforce positive norms and raise awareness of the urgency of youth substance use problems to motivate widespread action to ameliorate those problems.
