Project Description The Eating Disorders Information and Training Network (EDIT-NET) reflects a comprehensive plan to develop a two-component scalable, interactive web-based platform that 1) delivers high quality training in evidence-based practice (EBP) for healthcare providers from a range of disciplines who are engaged in the treatment of eating disorders and 2) becomes the national resource for eating disorder literacy. To achieve these goals, EDIT-NET will leverage leading-edge technological and educational advances to provide asynchronous, discipline-specific e-training and informational activities to healthcare professionals as well as public stakeholders. EDIT-NET will have a Provider and a Public Component. Users of both components will have ongoing access to technical assistance from EDIT-NET and will engage with e-training and informational activities via an innovative online platform developed by our partnering organization, the 3C Institute. The Provider Component will give healthcare providers access to discipline-specific educational and training materials including (but not limited to): established EBP guidelines for eating disorders, interactive decision trees, and monthly interactive webinars led by expert EDIT-NET faculty. E-training activities in the Provider Component will be designed to enhance healthcare providers’ ability to detect and treat the full spectrum of eating disorders (symptomatic and developmental). Both e-training and informational activities will also contain specialized modules to reflect the diverse needs of the eating disorder community including: Spanish-language resources, resources for working with underserved populations, and the treatment of commonly comorbid conditions (e.g., depression, anxiety, substance use disorders). The Public Component will provide public stakeholders (e.g., patients, parents/caregivers, advocates) with educational materials including (but not limited to): up-to-date information on identifying eating disorders, empirically-supported treatments, and guidelines for special considerations (e.g., college students, athletes etc.). Years 1 and 2 of the project will be devoted to finalizing the infrastructure of EDIT-NET and to developing the content and technological functions of the online platform. In Year 3 of the project, we will pilot EDIT-NET with both healthcare provider participants (n=80) and public stakeholders (n=40). The crucial feedback provided will inform refinement of EDIT-NET as necessary to ensure that it meets the needs of both groups of stakeholders. We will undertake the necessary edits/refinements to EDIT-NET during Year 4 with the completed program ready for public launch and dissemination by the start of Year 5. After the official launch, we will collect data on a) the number of individuals accessing EDIT-NET, b) the number of healthcare professionals trained in effective strategies to treat eating disorders, and c) the extent to which EDIT-NET participation effects change in clinical practice. EDIT-NET will thus become the national authoritative source for information and training in eating disorders and be a blueprint for other disorders and other countries to address similar crises of information and training....
