Project Description 2NDFLOOR Youth Text/Helpline provides prevention and intervention services for youth, ages 10-24 throughout the state of New Jersey, 24/7, 365 days a year. 2NDFLOOR uses multi-media platforms that include phone, text and message board, creating a confidential and anonymous space for youth to discuss and receive guidance and resources from trained counselors. Issues include mental health, family/peer relationships, racial violence and other relevant topics. Studies on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on youth indicate an increased incidence of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder among children and adolescents. Experts also caution that mental health consequences from the pandemic will likely continue in the future, due to losses in age-appropriate social development and self-esteem as well as continued anxiety; the risks of substance abuse and psychiatric disorders are likely to increase as well. The need for easily accessible mental health services for children and youth has never been greater. Text messages to 2NDFLOOR have increased by 50% over pre-pandemic levels, putting 2NDFLOOR staff on overdrive trying to keep pace. 2NDFLOOR is a project of 180 Turning Lives Around, a nonprofit which is the state-designated, lead domestic violence and sexual assault agency for Monmouth County, New Jersey. The goal of the project is to enhance access to the 2NDFLOOR youth/text helpline and its life-changing supports for youth ages 10-24 in the state of New Jersey, in order to reduce mental health consequences from the widespread trauma and pressures associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the course of the grant year, which runs September 30,2022 through September 29, 2023, 2NDFLOOR anticipates 12,000 youth ages 10-24 will call, text or message the helpline, including engaging in 125,000 text exchanges. They would have conversations with 2NDFLOOR counselors about issues related to mental health, family and peer relationships, school, dating, bullying, violence and other topics. At least 12,000 resources are expected to be provided to youth during the grant year. These objectives represent a 20-25% increase over current services levels. We also anticipate that at least 95% of callers/texters in any given month will continue to indicate that the conversation was helpful to them by stating that they would refer someone to 2NDFLOOR. To reach its objectives of increased use by youth in New Jersey, the program will implement a social marketing/ social media awareness campaign, including presentations, community events and the distribution of posters, labels, SmartCards and other information materials for youth- serving organizations and over 1300 middle and high schools throughout New Jersey. The grant of $500,000 would fund additional hours of current and new staff for the expanded program, as well as social media, community events and informational materials.... View More

This year, the project would also begin two new initiatives: one, to provide short-term counseling (an estimated 500 sessions) for youth in Monmouth County impacted by, or at risk of domestic, sexual and dating violence; and second, to establish Youth Advisor Teams in 50 schools, as well as provide education at these schools on mental health topics. These teams will spread information about 2NDFLOOR, help answer message boards peer-to-peer, and generally help to destigmatize seeking help for relationship violence and mental health issues.... Short Title: SAMHSA Treatment Drug Courts
Project Description The 22nd Judicial District Intervention Court is an established adult drug court in rural Mississippi applying for funding to expand and enhance the continuum of care for substance abuse treatment beyond residential treatment to include more directed aftercare treatment that incorporates increased accountability. This Intervention Court serves three counties: Claiborne, Copiah, and Jefferson. All three of these counties have poverty rates over 35% as some of the highest in the state of Mississippi. The goal of the Intervention Court is to increase access to necessary treatment and support to the participant within this program who have met the Miss. Code Ann. §9-23-1 through §9-23-51 for offenders who are addicted to illicit drugs or alcohol and are at substantial risk for reoffending or failing to complete a less intensive disposition, such as probation or pretrial supervision. The gap in services has a direct impact on the program success level and the implementation of the following objectives will support the program to increase from 26 participants currently to 40 new participants in the first grant year. The objectives read as follows: (1) Internal Clinical Assessments and Recommendations, (2) Relapse Prevention Group Program, (3) Access to Individual Therapy, (4) Update Assessment tools throughout program, (5) Referral and follow up with Medicated Assistance Program, and (5) Increased salaries where applicable for Treatment Counselor/Grant Administrator to meet increased program needs servicing the community. These necessary resources have long been associated with individuals success rate to reduce recidivism and improve the standard of living in the communities being directly supported.... View More

Project Description Two Spirit Health Services, Inc. (26Health, Inc.) is Central Florida’s LGBTQ+ health center. We are located in downtown Orlando in Orange County. We are modeled after the Federal Government’s health Center Program (FQHC) and provide comprehensive outpatient medical services, behavioral health services, STD/HIV/HEP testing, education and outreach, patient care services, and other wellness services. We are currently in the process of rebranding to 26Health, Inc. and have completed the filing with the State of Florida, however, the process is not yet complete. For this project, we propose to develop a comprehensive health communication strategy to engage with male people of color who have sex with men and people of color who have transgender or non-binary experience and are largely aged 13-24. The engagement strategy will seek to increase the knowledge base of HIV testing, treatment, prevention and education among this population, along with referrals to substance misuse treatment (completed in-house) where indicated. We know that with our current infrastructure, our baseline is 933 tests per year for HIV. With an expectation that we can increase testing numbers by 3% annually, we expect to test 961 people in year 1, 990 in year two, 1,018 in year three, 1,049 in year four, and 1,080 in year five. Although no data exists for determining how many people get tested multiple times during any specific period, anecdotally, we assume 10% of people get retested. Accounting for that estimate, we can test 4,588 unduplicated people over the project period. Based upon the data accumulated in Section A, we estimate 24% of people testing positive will be assessed to be in need of substance misuse treatment. 2017 data reflects 514 new cases of HIV in Orange County, FL. Therefore we estimate 123 people each year (514 x 24%) referred for substance abuse treatment, equaling 615 people over the life of the project. Our stated goals for the project are 1) increase the number of members of the population of focus who actively participate in substance misuse treatment, and 2) increase the number of members of the population of focus who are tested for HIV/STI/HEP.... Project Description Expansion and enhancement of the Re-Entry Court of the 2nd Judicial District Court in Washoe County will provide comprehensive substance abuse, mental health and co- occurring disorder assessments and treatment to more than double the current enrollment of participants on early release or parole status from the NV Department of Corrections. The coordinated, multi-systemic approach will combine the strengths of a problem- solving court to motivate personal change with evidence-based treatment and support systems to reduce recidivism in the criminal justice system. Intensive case management and monitoring services will include health screenings and establishing a medical home, housing needs, employment assistance, educational needs and life skills. The 2nd Judicial District Court will provide on-going supervision of the participants including regular court reviews, face-to-face check-ins from 1 to 5 days a week and random drug and alcohol testing. The Court will partner with a local non-profit treatment center, to provide assessments, counseling and access to specialized treatment. Evidence-based treatment will include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Contingency Management, Motivational Interviewing, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing. Existing partnerships will be expanded to provide the broadest array of services to participants, including access to employment opportunities. The project will work closely to assist former offenders in the re-entry process, including step-down housing, mentoring and 12-step groups, work force development, clothing and health needs, and restoration of voting rights. The project will also work in linking clients with affordable health care to ensure participants receive appropriate health screenings and access to primary care through a medical home.
