The intervention will serve a total of 960 participants across the lifetime of the project. The project is also designed to promote positive prevention messages and to change community norms via the social marketing campaigns. The proposed prevention intervention is replicated from two UMSL-MIMH SAMHSA-funded programs- Girls Holla Back! and FACE-UP (Families and Communities Empowered-Understanding Prevention).

Over the five-year project period, the MSM: HIV CBI will provide prevention information, educational workshops, HIV testing and counseling for adolescents and young adults, ages 13 to 24.

The program will target communities with a high percentage of African Americans, high poverty rates, and high crime. The outcomes of the program include a reduction in substance abuse among participants, and participants who complete the Say It Straight (SIS) program will report an increased intention to avoid substance abuse and risky behaviors on post-survey. The program will also increase the number of persons in the target population tested for HIV and Viral Hepatitis by 50% over the baseline.

Lives program activities; (3) provide screening for viral hepatitis; (4) and develop and implement a media campaign in the metro system as a key environmental strategy.
