The coalition will prevent and reduce youth substance use by implementing the following strategies: (1) Address the factors that lead to the problem of underage drinking and prescription drug abuse. (2) Implement activities such as Alcohol Purchase Surveys on local retail off-premise outlets. (3) Partner with community organizations promoting the Talk It Up, Lock It Up! Campaign. (4) Work with county and city parks and recreation management to develop and implement a consistent policy regarding community events that allow alcohol. (5) Partner with New Hanover Regional Medical Center to conduct Medication Drop-off events to prevent or reduce youth access to alcohol and prescription drugs. (6) Participate in implementation of multiple strategies across multiple sectors to achieve community change. (7) Work towards creating population-level change through media and public opinion education. (8) Sustain the Coalition's vitality, involvement, and energy in the community through the various partnerships.
