Fortune's Ready to Respond Project will provide substance abuse and HIV prevention services to 280 formerly incarcerated Black and Latino 16-17 years old. Evidence-based intervention Street Smart will be used, building on previous implementation with older youth. All participants will receive supervision, case management and/or individual and group counseling, as well as full range of supportive services. The project will serve 35 clients in Year 1, 70 in Years 2-4, and 35 in Year 5. The population will include HIV+ and HIV- males and females, and participants who don't know their status. Participants will include Men Having Sex with Men (MSM) and heterosexual youth with histories of substance use, unprotected sex, and trauma.

The Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation (SAAF) proposed to implement the Reaching Adolescents Prevention Project (RAPP) project to measurably increase protection against substance abuse and HIV transmission among at-risk minority youth in Tucson, Arizona. SAAF will conduct the evidence-based Say It Straight curriculum and provide family support services with 400 youth and engage local stakeholders in community capacity development including training and policy change activities. Supplemental funds will be used to expand testing services. The goals for the RAPP HIV testing expansion are to: 1) Increase the number of minority youth, young adults and family members who know their HIV sero-status; 2) Increase the number of staff trained to offer rapid HIV counseling and testing services; 3) Ensure people who test positive access HIV primary health care; 4) Refer people at high-risk for HIV infection for intensive risk and harm reduction counseling; and 5) Increase community awareness and decrease stigma around HIV / AIDS and testing. In 2012, RAPP will continue to measurably increase protection against substance abuse and HIV infection among at-risk minority youth in Pima County, Arizona. SAAF uses evidence-based curriculums, including Say It Straight, to reach 320 youth, provides family support services and expands rapid HIV counseling, testing and referral services to serve a total of 700 people including youth and their family members.
