Our strategies/interventions include Rural Family Networks in areas of underrepresented populations. We will bring together the statewide network to establish a pathway of collaboration that reflects the diverse populations, geographic areas, and organizations (formal and informal) through a statewide networking, technical assistance, and strategic plan for ongoing sustainability and growth. Our goal and objectives are: Goal 1: Build Tennessee Rural Family Networks, network with diverse families, build youth voice, and create a pathway to involvement. Goal 2: Foster leadership skills among families of children and youth statewide with serious emotional disturbances (SED) so they can play a meaningful role in developing community networks. Goal 3: Provide technical assistance, information, support, and resources to individual youth with SED, the families of children and youth with SED, organizations and programs also serving these families so families and youth can effectively navigate the system to make wise mental health choices. Goal 4: Promote peer support and social inclusion of families with children and youth with SED throughout communities to facilitate programs and services that are family and youth driven and decrease stigma and bullying.

Collaborators include the state Office of MaineCare Services, the Certification as an Intentional Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) training program of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, Mercy Hospital, and Maine Quality Counts, among others. As part of this project, Amistad, Inc. will create a Quality Assurance Council (QAC) to increase consumer participation, voice, and oversight of the grant project. Proposed activities of the project include training, education, networking opportunities, and information for peer service workers and for traditional providers who now must hire Peers; negotiate to insert governing language into state contracts that is consistent with best practices in Peer Services, and advocate for consumer concerns during a Health Care Reform process which thus far has been largely provider-driven.

Short Title: Consumer Network Grants Alaska Peer Support Consortium (AKPSC) intends to expand the Statewide Consumer Network of peers to rural areas of Alaska and develop local leaders who will work to transform the mental health system by: (a) Conducting outreach to establish contact with potential peers throughout the state, (b) Conducting Wellness Recovery Action Plan Trainings in rural areas in the 5 regions of the state, (c) Develop local stakeholder partnerships to promote peer involvement in local service delivery and policy making, (d) Conducting 1 WRAP Facilitator Training for up to 20 consumer leaders from around the state, and (e) Providing ongoing education and technical assistance to consumers/organizations that sponsor individuals seeking peer training, and other related policy stakeholders. The project goals are to (1) increase consumer participation, voice, and empowerment statewide; (2) emphasize and build consumer leadership within organizations and in the community; and (3) promote activities related to partnership development and peer support expansion.

Alaska Peer Support Consortium (AKPSC) intends to expand the Statewide Consumer Network of peers to rural areas of Alaska and develop local leaders who will work to transform the mental health system by: (a) Conducting outreach to establish contact with potential peers throughout the state, (b) Conducting Wellness Recovery Action Plan Trainings in rural areas in the 5 regions of the state, (c) Develop local stakeholder partnerships to promote peer involvement in local service delivery and policy making, (d) Conducting 1 WRAP Facilitator Training for up to 20 consumer leaders from around the state, and (e) Providing ongoing education and technical assistance to consumers/organizations that sponsor individuals seeking peer training, and other related policy stakeholders.
